The Alchemist
Terry & Ann Kellerman , Owners

As the world changes, so does the Alchemist, thriving on continuous evolution, always changing for the better.

Opened in 2015, owner Terry Kellerman was acting on a vision; that of an early 20th century establishment, reminiscent of a bygone era; a place with artfully crafted cocktails in an intimate and unique setting. Terry’s artistic skills as an upholsterer and proprietor of this historic building for over 40 years make him uniquely qualified to bring this vision to life in an incredible setting.

And what a setting it is! The building at 2222 4th St. was originally constructed in 1906 as the WBL YMCA. In 1912 the City of WBL constructed the first addition, which became the White Bear Auditorium. There was a pool hall and single lane bowling alley. The bowling pins were actually set by hand after each roll. In 1922 the Armory was built and in 1952 what is now the front section of the building was constructed by Keno Dibdahl. Standing in the main bar area, you can actually take a panoramic look at Kellerman points out all of the variations in the building materials which identify the many stages of construction. The bar has a beautiful outdoor rooftop deck and a mezzanine inside overlooking the steampunk themed bar.

With a new in-house Sommelier and nationally recognized cocktail artists, the wine list is expanding as well; along with it the possibilities for your next cocktail adventure. Whether you are relaxing with a craft cocktail and one of their small plate menu items, or a glass of wine with the new dessert flatbread, you will find their outdoor seating the perfect atmosphere for date night or a friends’ night out. You have earned the opportunity to get out and enjoy!
